International students need to be explicitly taught the forms of expression of critical thinking and inquiry which are expected within their particular context and discipline. Equally lecturers interested in internationalising their pedagogy and curriculum need to learn about other possible forms of expression of reasoning and writing in other age educators to teach critical thinking, and one of the most widely used programs, Tactics for Thinking, sold 70,000 teacher guides.3 But, for reasons I’ll explain, the programs were not very effective—and today we still lament students’ lack of critical thinking.
